Hey all ! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page :-)
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
For this year's World AIDS Day 2019, I'll be running/struggling through/ignoring my knees on the 10K RedRun in London on 30th November, in an effort to raise money for Aidsmap (NAM).
What is NAM?
NAM is a vital educational charity for those living with HIV and is a major figure in tackling misinformation and stigma surrounding HIV.
A recent YouGov survey (July 2019, of 2,075 people) revealed
high levels of HIV related stigma
– almost half of people would feel uncomfortable kissing someone living with HIV, and 64% would feel uncomfortable having sex with someone living with HIV who is on effective treatment.
NAM has been at the forefront of championing the Undetectable=Untransmittable (U=U) message, assuring people, both HIV positive and those who do not have the virus, that there is
no risk of sexual transmission when virally suppressed on treatment
. Data released earlier this year revealed that less than 1 in 5 people in the UK were aware of this fact
How can you help?
- Donating £5 ensures we reach even more people with reliable and accurate resources about HIV treatment and prevention
- £10 helps us produce news bulletins for healthcare staff all across the world about developments in the fast-moving world of HIV care
- £25 means we can empower more activists in the campaign for PrEP with campaigning and advocacy materials
My take-home message:
No-one deserves to be shamed or vilified for their health matters; You can make a difference by helping to debunk these myths surrounding HIV, and in doing so, help to end the stigma that affects so many for good.
Thank you x
