We offer mum to mum breastfeeding support to help all babies get the best start

Story

This year it is the Breastfeeding Network's (BfN)  20th birthday and they have set a challenging overall fundraising target of £20,000 through a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year. One of these is through a " 20km virtual run" between 1st - 20th May 2017. There are no real "rules" about how this challenge and distance is covered.

I will participate in an organised 10km run in Peckham on 7th May 2017 (a shiny medal awaits!). My second 10km will be run at some point in the following week (Details TBC). Anyone who follows my regular FB parkrun posts, will know that I don't find a hilly 5km easy, so two sets of 10km (even if spread out) will be a challenge!

I started the BfN volunteer peer helper training when Emily was 5 months old. I have been volunteering weekly in a local breastfeeding drop in since March 2015 alongside community midwives. I have also completed further training and (time and nerves permitting!) take calls on the National Breastfeeding Helpline. In addition, I also provide informal peer support and evidence based information on a local breastfeeding FB page.

I have met  and continue to meet so many wonderful mothers, their partners and their gorgeous babies while providing them invaluable peer support and enabling parents to make decisions regarding how they feed their child(ren) relating to all aspects of breastfeeding. Support includes information about drugs in breastmilk, returning to work and everything in between!

All this, and making solid friendships with fellow BfN volunteers and health professionals. I feel proud to be part of this charity.

Any donation that you can give is so vital and gratefully received.
