We provide whole family care and support to those living with life-limiting illness

Story

Thank you all for you incredible generosity so far. We are truly touched by your donations, and we know Shane would be too.

Challenge 1: The inaugural Team Exertis Triathlon took place on the only wet and stormy day of July. This meant strong currents for the swimmers, slippery roads for our cyclists and nothing much different to our runners other than a chilly breeze to cool them down!. The teams all did fantastically well, and are already planning the next triathlon.

Challenge 2: The 100km Bikathon. The team were expecting the worst, with a wet and windy forecast, however on arrivalthe sun was shining and not a cloud was in sight. After completing a leisurely first circuit, laps 2 and 3 were completed faster than a rollerblading Usain Bolt . However after being told off by the "Canal Police" for "speeding" on the canal towpaths, lap 4 was completed at a slightly slower pace. On completion, the team realised that each lap were actually slightly shorter than the 25km initially expected and, wanting to preserve the integrity of the ride, they pushed on to cycle the extra 8km needed to a nearby pub where glasses of Guinness were raised in Shane's memory.

With a key member of our Exertis family not able to take park in Challenge 1 or 2, Challenge 3 promises to be a punishing test from start to finish....

Challenge 3:

Challenge 3 welcomes Marc "Mountain Rover" James to the mix. Marc will be joined by Challenge 1 and 2 participants Phil "I still do circuits" Williams, Mark "Land-Based Spinner Dolphin" Weston and Stephen "Challenge-Meister" Hunter.

The trio will be climbing up Mt Snowdon's infamous Pyg Track on 13th October. As if climbing one of the most challenging routes up Mt Snowdon wasn't enough, the team will be ascending, whilst carrying their mountain bikes.  After climbing the Pyg Track, the group will then ride their bikes down Llanberis, a 7km route, complete with an overall descent of 950m.

The descent is not an easy one as Phil can attest to. Last time Phil tried the route, both he and his bike came off worse for wear, with the bike suffering nearly 4 figures worth of damage, and Phil losing the battle against a barbed wire fence and bruising both himself and his "fragile" ego!

We have been overwhelmed with all your messages of support and appreciate each and every donation. It has been amazing to see how far Shane's legacy of doing good and staying positive has spread, and we hope that this will continue well into the future. So please help us continue to fund raise for this great cause, and show our intrepid trio your support.

Challenge 2:

Mark "rather be GIN-ning" Rushton and Phil "I do circuits" Williams, will be cycling 100km in Shane's memory (and because they enjoy putting themselves through sheer hell). They are joined in this by Sony's very own  Stephen "My phone's better than yours" Hunter.

The route encompasses canal towpaths, off road cycling and some serious gradient-filled countryside. The route the have chosen is 25km, so 4 gruelling laps will be required.

The ride will take place on the 11th August, which is forecasted to be a wet and windy day in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.

So please help support Phil "I do circuits" Williams and Mark "I'd rather be GIN-ning" Rushton as they undertake this epic challenge.

The more we raise, the more we can help Severn Hospice fund specialist care and support for more people and their loved ones.

Challenge 1:

In memory of Shane, nine members of the Exertis Mobile team will be competing in the Marlow Fugitive Olympic Relay Triathlon on the 29th July. The challenge will start with a brisk 1.5km swim in the Thames, followed by a 37km bike complete with steep hills, and finally a 10km run to the finish. Teams are:

  • Team Bullfrogs: Mark Weston, Jason Howe and Alex Cattle
  • Team Timberwolves: Georgey Boyd, Dave Towns and Nick Beesley
  • Team Excelsior: Claire Williams, Rik Hubbard, Michael Sudlow

Please dig deep and help us reach our goal, and raise money for a worthy cause,  in memory of a great friend and colleague.
