Filmsteps run filmmaking classes for children aged 7 to 16yrs. For the last few years our young film crews have had a great deal of fun doing everything from films to adverts, news reports, walking the red carpet and taking part in award ceremonies! This term they are doing something even more special.Filmsteps have challenged each of their Filmsteps crews across the country to choose a charity and make their very own mini 'Charity Telethon' style TV program. In order to qualify, however, it MUST include the following 4 things: a documentary clip about their charity; a news report on additional fundraising activities; an entertainment clip and their own original telethon logo. And their challenge is to do this in JUST 10 WEEKS!!The challenge was launched in January and we are immensely proud of our crews, some as young as just 7yrs old, who have launched themselves into their task with gusto! Above all we have been impressed by the passion and and determination they have demonstrated in support of their nominated charities.FILMSTEPS MAIDSTONE FS1 have chosen RSPCA LEYBOURNE ANIMAL CENTRE as their charity and are visiting the centre and the animals they will be helping on 6th February. The RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre was opened in 1996 and each year helps around 3000 unwanted, abandoned and neglected animals. There are 42 kennels licensed for 57 dogs and 40 cat pens licensed for 72 cats. There is also a small animal house which caters for just about everything else! It has 10 rabbit runs, two small rooms to house rodents and wildlife plus 2 stables and some wooden arks so that fowl and sometimes farm stock can have shelter. The site extends to some 23 acres and on going maintenance work is required to keep the Animal Centre looking spic and span for the 80,000 visitors who come each year. The RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre covers a huge area including Kent, Sussex, Essex and parts of Greater London too; its doors are ever open to help needy animals. Although the Centre is funded by the RSPCA Headquarters the amount received is never enough to cover the additional requirements of a thriving and expanding Centre in these days of spiralling costs.
Filmsteps Maidstone FS1 are asking people to support them in their fundraising by making a donation via this site. All donations, however small, are gratefully received. This site is easy and safe to use and all the money goes directly to the charity.
The completed mini Telethons will all be released onto the Filmsteps TV website (www.filmstepstv.com) on Friday April 23rd 2010 which we have nicknamed FILMSTEPS FUNDAY FRIDAY!The Filmsteps Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for Filmsteps crews to show how their filmmaking skills can be put to good use to raise money and awareness for a good cause.
