It is my mission to swim (2.5 miles), bike (112 miles) and run (26.2 miles) my way through the huge stigma around mental health - all in one race!

Many people do not realise, but I have dealt with my fair share of mental health issues from having an anorexia throughout my teen years through to a continuous battles with anxiety and depression.

I can confidently say that 90% of those that I know will be surprised to hear this as if you meet me I come across confident and full of life. I personally think that you would be right to be surprised, because that is who I am. Just because I have had issues with mental health does not mean that it rules my life or that I am incapable of living a fulfilling life. Actually, it has taught me invaluable lessons that have made me a stronger person and I am not ashamed to say that it has been a part of my life.

If you are reading this and you are having a hard time - it is okay not to be okay. What isn't okay is hiding away, you wouldn't hide a physical illness like a broken leg or the flu so why would you hide away a mental illness? You don't have to shout about it from the rooftops but please talk to someone. It's normal and there are plenty more of us out there going through the same battles, and you will soon feel less alone.

Mind are a fantastic charity that have the knowledge and skills to help people and I wish I had known about them when I was in need of a helping hand - so now I want to help them do an even more fantastic job.
