I am fundraising in memory of L/Cpl James Ashworth VC who was killed in action on 13th June 2012. The Victoria Cross Trust work to repair and renovate graves of our country's war heroes.

ABOUT THE VICTORIA CROSS TRUST

It is a general misconception that graves of men awarded the VC are looked after and protected by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission however, only those VC's that were killed on the battlefields during WWI and WWII are commemorated either with a grave or a memorial. The responsibility for the upkeep of graves belonging to VC recipients who died in other conflicts or of old age, lies with their relatives. Unfortunately, families and relatives have dwindled or died out leaving many of these graves in disrepair and suffering from neglect.

The Victoria Cross Trust works with relatives of the brave men whose graves fall outside of the remit of the CWGC and provide the same level of care afforded to the men that fell in battle during the two world wars.

About the charity

The Victoria Cross Trust cleans and maintains the graves of the recipients of the highest award for Valour - The VC - that are not looked after by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. We also ensure that their memories are maintained through educating the public in a variety of different media. Through our network of veterans, to whom we provide support and activities to keep them active and fulfilled, and a network of volunteers we ensure that the 'graves of the brave' are not forgotten. Our charity is small but with a big name and we ensure that our donations are focused directly on our charitable aims and respecting the highest award for Valour - The Victoria Cross.
