Thanks for caring and wanting to help.
We want to raise the funds urgently needed so a specially trained team
of experts can capture more birds for the captive breeding project.
Less than 150 Western Ground Parrots are estimated to exist, placing them only a heartbeat away from extinction.
These parrots, only known to occur at remote Cape Arid National Park in Western Australia, came close to being wiped out by devastating bushfires in 2015 when approx. 90% of their known occupied habitat was burned. Amazingly these ground-dwelling parrots survived the fires in two small, unburnt pockets of vegetation.
We are supporting the continuation of the current captive breeding project at Perth Zoo. To boost the population of this critically endangered bird, the Zoo is attempting to breed the parrots. However, with only one female bird currently in captivity, the Zoo needs more Western Ground Parrots.

Should we be able to raise the funds to capture more birds, Perth Zoo's aviary facilities will also need to be expanded to house the new arrivals before the capture can go ahead. If we fail to reach our target, funds will be used to support recovery measures for the population in the wild.
Even if you can only make a small donation, it will bring us one step closer to saving the Western Ground Parrot. Let's do this together!
About us: We are an entirely volunteer-run organisation and registered charity (donations over $2 are tax-deductible for Australian taxpayers) based in Albany, Western Australia. We work with the Department of Parks and Wildlife and Perth Zoo to save this critically endangered bird.
