Story
Great Ormond Street Hospital provides inspirational and world-class care to hundreds of children every day. But they need to raise about £100 million every year to help to give hope to seriously ill children and their families.
The 17th Holborn was founded in 1957, and we want to celebrate our 60th birthday in 2017 by doing something to help towards that target.
When the Hospital ran the Wishing Well appeal in the 1980s the Scout and Guide movements combined to raise over £850,000 – that’s the equivalent of £2,158,000 today!
We want to harness the power of Scouting and Guiding again this year. We don’t expect to raise the same amount again, but we’d like to get to at least £60,000.
The money will be well used in any part of GOSH, but we’d particularly like to help the Mildred Creak Unit for children and young people with mental health problems.
Some of the conditions that are treated on the Mildred Creak Unit include:
- eating disorders
- somatising disorders (where you suffer from unexplained medical symptoms)
- mood disorders (such as depression, where you feel very sad)
- other emotional and behavioural problems
If we raise more than our target, there are plenty of other things that the Hospital needs!
