Originally I entered this cycling event for the challenge. Then, as I realised the effort it will take, I thought "I can also use this to raise money for two causes which mean something to me".  One of these is a charity that helped my friends Martin and Anne as Martin's cancer progressed. A wonderful guy who enriched so many people’s lives, including ours. Martin died on 30 March 2019. 

Maggie's https://www.maggiescentres.org/about-maggies/ provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends. Maggie’s Centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need. Their Centres are places to find practical advice; where qualified experts provide emotional support; to meet other people; where you can simply sit quietly with a cup of tea. Their Swansea services have been a great help to Martin and Anne throughout Martin's illness. Raising money for Maggie's will help others benefit from their services.

takes me well out of my comfort zone and is a genuine challenge requiring many months of training.  Before entering, I'd cycled over 100 miles in one day just once. This challenge is 109 mile/day every day for 9 days to go from Land's End to John o'Groats.  That's like 9 back-to-back hilly marathons.  So be generous and help me smile through every one of the 980 miles. 

The other cause I'm raising money for is the Bethan Roper Trust for Refugees.
