Help more dogs to have lots more happy birthdays!
In Forever Hounds Trust's special 20th birthday year, will you help more dogs like Fudge celebrate their birthdays in happy homes?
Fudge came into the care of Forever Hounds Trust (formerly GRWE) at the age of 10. Although loved by his previous home they just couldn’t give him the care he needed.
He was covered in fleas and had a mouth full of rotting teeth. He also had muscle wastage due to not being walked. We quickly got him seen by a vet and he had to have 34 teeth removed! What a state this poor boy was in.
To help Fudge recover he came to stay with me in foster. Slowly does it with the oldies, but gradually, day by day, Fudge began to recover. Two short walks a day were replaced by one long walk as he regained his strength and found his stamina.
Following a couple of months of rehab I watched him go from strength to strength, thriving on a routine of good food, a mixture of exercise and rest, and of course lots of love! Within months Fudge was able to take on a 6 mile walk with ease and once his muscle tone had returned he even found his running legs again.
Watching his amazing journey of recovery was a privilege and I simply couldn’t part with him, so I adopted this wonderful older gent.
Given his age and the condition he was in when he first arrived in our care, all I could hope for was to spend another year with him. My boy Fudge however had other ideas. I saw him celebrate his 11th birthday… then his 12th birthday… and even his 13th birthday!
Fudge’s first ten birthdays were not the special occasion they should have been. But thanks to the second chance given to him by Forever Hounds Trust, the next three birthdays were full of joy for Fudge – and for us, his family.
Can you help us to give more dogs like Fudge a chance to enjoy their next birthday, safe in loving homes?
I sadly had to say goodbye to Fudge at the beginning of this year, but saw him enjoy one last Christmas - where his 8 remaining teeth still served him well, and he was able to thoroughly enjoy his turkey and sausages!
Thank you Fudge for a wonderful three and a half years, and thank you to all of you for helping Forever Hounds Trust to help so many dogs like Fudge. I know that all the dogs in Forever Hounds Trust’s care will be very grateful for whatever support you can give us this year.
Lots of love, Janet xxx
