We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

My mother in law is someone who cannot be forgotten but through time I'm having to come to the terms that she may forget me.
Earlier this year my wife's mother was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia caused by a series of mini strokes and have now resulted in a clot in the brain that is irreversible. Its not a matter of how my mother in law is cured or treated. Its simply ensuring that she is as comfortable as possible for whatever time she has left on this planet.

The mini strokes that cause vascular dementia are often so slight that they cause no immediate symptoms, or they may cause some temporary confusion. However, each stroke destroys a small area of cells in the brain by cutting off its blood supply. This is so slight, that my mother in law was originally diagnosed and treated for depression. Confused and suffering from memory loss we have witnessed a great woman who personally welcomed me to the family and has been there for us on every step of my marriage and the first 6 years of my sons life deteriorate to a point that she needs a full time carer.

Before all this happened I was pretty ignorant on dementia and Alzheimer's disease. However, I've learned the importance of knowledge, as 1 in 20 people over the age of 65 will develop dementia, you will either know or know someone who is affected by this killer with no cure.
Dementia is a collective name for progressive brain syndromes which affect memory, thinking, behaviour and emotion. Dementia is the leading cause of disability and dependency among the elderly. Although each person will experience dementia in their own way, eventually those affected are unable to care for themselves and need help with all aspects of daily life.

I call upon all of us forgotten, to educate ourselves to ensure that we can recognise the signs of dementia, support our family members who have the disease and those who have given up parts of there own life to care for loved ones who simply cannot care for themselves.
On the 14th of July, myself and a group of selfless streamers, podcasters and gamers will come together to try an raise awareness of dementia through a 12/24hr livestream on Mixer. You will also be given the opportunity to raise some much needed funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
