Story

In 2013 Simon Howard (my husband) and JJ Lucia Wright created Feel the Force Day in order to give adults and children with disabilities the opportunity to experience a film and TV convention in an environment tailored to their needs. To enhance understanding and comfort they use smell jars, touch table props, costume characters who donate their time, and there's a full changing place so everyone experiences dignity, no matter how complex their needs.

A quiet room provides somewhere calming for people with autism, aspergers and/or anxiety, and tickets are available to everyone, as the best way to teach about diversity is through inclusion.

These events couldn't happen without an enormous amount of fundraising. We spend each year fundraising to pay for the event, and this year to help achieve this target I am running (fingers crossed) 13.1 miles of the Perkins Great Eastern Run. I've never run further than 10k, so this is a huge challenge for me. Please, please help motivate me by sending money, whatever you're able to will be put to great use.

The first Feel the Force Day was arranged for 20 people and attended by 400, proving the need locally for exciting events for disabled people. In the following years we have catered for upwards of 5,000 people per event, and in 2018 we are taking the plunge and have booked the velodrome at Olympic Park, London. People have travelled from the Isle of Wight, the Netherlands and the United States to attend Feel the Force Day and we want to continue helping people around the world from our local base in Peterborough.
