We fund research to stop prostate cancer killing men

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I am looking to cycle over 2,000km from the Baltic Sea in Poland to the Adriatic sea in Croatia - passing through Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.

I will be travelling alone and unsupported, therefore anything you can donate will without doubt keep my spirits and motivation high through the 5 weeks that it will take me to complete the challenge.

On a personal note raising money for Prostate Cancer with it now being 10 years since my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer means a lot. He is fighting fit now and I'm very thankful for everything that Prostate Cancer UK are doing to support this cause. Approximately 1 in 8 men in the UK will get prostate cancer in the UK at some point in there lives, therefore donating whatever you can would certainly go towards helping a lot of families. Thank you in advance.

If you want to find out how the cycling is progressing I will be sharing progress from 15th August through https://take-2.org/

Additionally as you contemplate donating, its important I outline what Prostate Cancer UK do with donations. Donations support research to find better ways to diagnose, treat and prevent prostate cancer, raising awareness for men through marketing and supporting men and their families affected by the disease.

£10 – pays for one hour of a research assistant's time, providing valuable support in laboratory settings and helping research projects run smoothly.

£35 – pays for 350 ‘Know your prostate’ pocket guides helping more men aware of their risk of prostate cancer and where they can go for support.

£50 - Could pay for the analysis of four tissue samples allowing scientists to understand more about prostate cancer and how it can develop in men. Using a sample from a man’s first biopsy to work out the individual make-up of his prostate cancer could help clinicians decide what treatment is most likely to work for him.

£75 - Could pay for 5 surgery support packs, giving men practical and informative support on the after-effects of surgery when they need it most. The packs give them access to vital supplies in a discrete fashion, information for them and their families on what to expect, what is normal and where they can find additional support.

£100 - Could cover the cost of analysing six blood samples. Blood samples could be used to work out why a particular treatment works for some men and not others.
