Story

Due to  COVID19 the event was cancelled on 22nd March 2020, however as so many people had sponsored me I did run the course by myself on that date. Many thanks to everyone who sponsored me.

The event is now taking place next Sunday 13th June 2021and I will be running in it.

I have re-opened my Just Giving page for anybody who would want to donate. Please read the below to see why I am running. Many thanks in advance.

I am running the Weymouth Half Marathon on Sunday 22nd March 2020 on behalf of the Weldmar Hospice Trust who provide end of life care, in memory of my mother in law Barbara Dore.

I have to say at this point that I am not a regular fund raiser and I have definitely never run in an organised event previously, so why at the age of 59yrs have I decided to run the Weymouth Half?

My mother in law Barbara trained as a nurse and spent her working life caring for others, ending her NHS career at Weymouth Hospital.

In the summer of 2019 Barbara became unwell and was admitted to Dorset County Hospital, where she had a number of tests and was then discharged to her home without any treatment. It was quite apparent to Barbara herself and her family that she had some form of cancer. At this time the way forward was unknown and there was a lot of uncertainty about what to expect.

Then nurses from the Weldmar Hospice Trust came to Barbara’s home and spoke to her and the family. Shortly after Barbara was admitted to the Weldmar Hospice where she was cared for with respect, compassion and understanding.

Although Barbara was receiving end of life care, the staff at the hospice brought light to an otherwise dark time.

On 11th October 2019 Barbara passed away, peacefully at the hospice.

The Weldmar Hospice relies on charitable donations for their much-needed work. I hope that having read this story you feel that you would like to sponsor me, to support the Weldmar Hospice, so that they can continue to provide vital end of life care to others.
