UPDATE MONDAY 5 OCTOBER 2015

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the run (although, admittedly, I did already know this), is that it’s never going to go well unless you train – something I omitted to do over the last 6 months, apart from one 11 mile run and an 8 mile run where I strained a tendon in my foot. Not a great strategy. As this was my 15th marathon, I should have known better.

Anyway, the first half of the race went really well, and I crossed the 13.1 mile mark in about 1h38mins. Shortly after that my body (and GPS watch) both gave up and I wobbled, walked and plodded to the end of the race, finishing in a disappointing but completely unsurprising 3h38mins – not a disaster considering my PB is 3h19mins. Next time I promise to train.

The good news is that, with your support, I’ve raised over £1000 for Medecins Sans Frontieres’ work on the refugee crisis – a massive achievement since my fundraising target was only £300. So thanks very much for your help!

To celebrate my buddy Lucas' 40th birthday, he has, weirdly, decided to recruit 39 people to run his 40th marathon, in Chester, with him. Why he thinks this is a great way to celebrate his move into a new decade, I do not know. But hopefully we'll make a shedload of money along the way.
