We, Andy, Pete & Ernie are cycling from Liverpool to Leeds along the Leeds Liverpool canal. A total of 127.25 miles to be completed over 2 days in early May 2017.
We each have our own reasons for doing this....

Last year my mum died from cancer and she had long been a supporter of Cancer Research. This in some way will continue the support she had given.

Similar to Pete, I have recently taken-up cycling again after many years. This challenge gives me an objective to aim for and will ensure I keep-up the training even when the weather could otherwise give me an excuse to stay indoors!

   My dad suffered a stroke 4 years ago and whilst he was in hospital recovering from this, he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. After a 15 month battle, with multiple operations, and multiple occasions where we thought we were going to lose him, he pulled through and is now cancer free.
  Anything that can be done to save others and their families from the pain and suffering we endured over that time as got to be the best way forward.
  Last year, I decided to take up cycling to try and improve my fitness and made the decision to use my training sessions to try and help others, hence the Challenge. Andy and Ernie have kindly agreed to join me on the ride.

Cancer. It’s called the “Big C” with no affection whatsoever. Even the mention of the word “Cancer” sends shivers down the spines of most people. It’s become an almost taboo word – Speak of it and it will visit you!!

Not so! We are battling very hard against this most insidious of conditions.

One day we will beat cancer – that is certain.

My mother was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 62. That’s it – 62. She died 23rd December 1999. The day before her 63rd birthday (Christmas Eve). Had she been a bad person? Did she deserve it? Absolutely not in a million years. She was the kindest, biggest-hearted woman I am ever likely to have had the privilege of knowing, of loving, of having as a mum.

One day we will beat cancer – that is certain.

My sister was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 50. Yes – 50. She died 6 weeks after diagnosis. Had she been a bad person? Did she deserve it? Did her two young daughters (one, a severely handicapped child) deserve it? You do the maths. How many of you are over 50? My sister wasn’t.

There are thousands more stories out there, many more upsetting than mine. You will have probably have heard some yourself.

One day we will beat cancer. That is certain.
