Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having rather quietly turned 50 this year I was looking for a challenge to mark this significant landmark in my life and perhaps help head off another midlife crisis that was surely just around the corner. The search was to find something that stirred my competitive spirit, related to friendships, my love of sport and of rugby in particular, through which I've had so many good times and met so many good people over the years.
Graeme Porteous and I met at London Scottish in the early '90's and I had the pleasure of getting to know him well through our many post match interactions, whilst on "tour" to Zimbabwe and of course as we shared many laughs on the infamous annual trips to the Amsterdam 7's. Although I hadn't seen Graeme for 20+ years the the news of his tragic passing last year following his ski accident shocked me profoundly. Graeme was without question one of the good guys!
The "Pedal for Podge" cycle ride arranged by his wife Alex is just around the corner with a number of folks gathering to mark Graeme's 50th birthday, his own competitive spirit and to raise money for a cause close to his heart (see notes on the Change Foundation). 458.16 miles over 5 days wearing mainly Lycra cycling from Edinburgh to Carlisle to Harrogate to Lincoln to Cambridge to London - what could possibly go wrong?
I realise that we are all asked so often to give to one good cause after another and if I like me you may save your efforts for charities personal to you I completely understand. That said, if you are able to support my efforts for the Change Foundation, and make a donation however modest, I would be very grateful indeed.
Thank you, Gordy
