On 1st December 2015 my daughter Natasha died in my arms from a brain tumour. It took a happy, achieving 16 year old girl and in the space of 48 hours made her totally blind and terminally ill.

At the end of February I was supposed to be taking part in a charity walk 62 miles across the Atlas Mountains and into the Sahara to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity. However, my shoulder was injured as I arrested a violent male. I am waiting for the results of an MRI scan and the doctor will not sign me off to travel.

My new plan is:

THE GREAT FENLAND POLICE PLOD - walking 74 miles in 4 days between Cambridgeshire Constabulary Police stations.

• 23rd Feb - Peterborough (Thorpe Wood) to March

• 24th Feb - March to Ely HOWEVER the road route can be shortened considerably by swimming across the New Bedford River. I will be entering the water opposite Straight Drove CB6 2DR.

• 25th Feb - Ely to Cambridge (Parkside)

• 26th Feb - Cambridge to Force HQ Huntingdon and this is my 53rd birthday

I will be sleeping on any available bit of floor space in the police stations.

I am unfit and overweight so this will be a challenge. Those of you who know me can rest assured there will be some Olympic standard moaning as I whinge my round the course. If you see me plodding along please feel free to shout, cheer, cajole or just plain insult me in that true copper's way, it will all be welcome and will put a smile on my face.

Before she passed away Natasha's last wish was for her whole brain to be donated for research, and it was. I would love you to donate to help continue funding this vital work, every penny counts. Your help will have a direct and positive effect on the work the research scientists are carrying out. So far Natasha's brain has allowed the team to make significant discoveries about the type of tumour and its characteristics. There is no cure and treatment beyond delaying the inevitable
