As Lewy Body Dementia has sadly affected a close family member we want to do what we can to raise awareness and support the work involved in finding a cure.
Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), also known as Lewy body dementia, is a common type of dementia estimated to affect more than 100,000 people in the UK.
Each case of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is as individual as the person living with it. Different people will show different combinations of symptoms. At present a diagnosis of DLB can only be confirmed by autopsy but a careful clinical evaluation of the patient and his or her symptoms can, in many cases, form the basis for making a reasonably confident lifetime diagnosis.
Due to the difficulties in diagnosing this type of dementia it often gets misdiagnosed.
The Society is committed to spending as little as possible on administration and aims for at least 96 pence in every pound received to go directly into research and awareness.
