In September, I will be swimming the English Channel, one of the toughest open water swims in the world. It is 21 miles in a straight line at its narrowest point, but the strong tides make it considerably further to swim. The water is cold (16-18 degrees) and wetsuits are not allowed according to CSPF rules. It is likely to take over 12 hours. 

I have been training for 2 years, swum thousands of miles in pools, lakes and Dover Harbour, sometimes swimming 3 times a day, getting up while its still dark to swim, in wind and rain, in water as low as 10 degrees (sans wimpsuit of course). As much as I love open water swimming (most of the time!), training for a channel swim completely takes over your life! Every weekend is spent swimming up and down the freezing waters of Dover Harbour for hours on end and my social life has become pretty much non existent over the last few months! 

My slot is the first week of September, weather and tide dependent. 

Sebastians Action Trust is a charity that provides support and respite breaks to children and families of children with terminal and life limiting illnesses. Last year, I was able to visit Sebastians Action Trust and see some of the fantastic work they are doing and I have decided to raise money to help support this fantastic charity again.
