I’m really excited to announce that I have been selected to volunteer overseas with Y Care International on an International Citizen Service placement this summer. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

I will be spending approximately 10 weeks in either Togo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, or Senegal making a difference through engaging in projects in local communities which will make a lasting impact through improving the lives of vulnerable young people. I am highly looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where I will experience a new culture and learn about poverty and global issues first-hand.

The first part of my placement is a challenge to raise £800 towards the work of Y Care International and their ICS partners. The money raised will go towards enabling the overall costs of ICS, ensuring they can continue sending youth volunteers to the developing world to make a lasting difference in disadvantaged communities.

Amongst other things, I will be running a half marathon in March and you can keep track of how I get on here on my JustGiving page. Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please dig deep!
