Harpenden: Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA)
For over 20 years, the Harpenden RDA Group has supported our local community in Hertfordshire by providing subsidised riding lessons to adults and children over the age of 5 with learning and physical disabilities.
Your donations enable us to continue offering subsidised lessons, purchase equipment that will benefit our riders & take them to events which will provide them with new challenges & experience.
The RDA is dedicated to improving the lives of people through education, therapy and fun.
Riding provides Physiotherapy on the move: The warmth & movement of the horse is transmitted through the body of the rider to help them relax and strengthen their core muscles enabling riders to become both stronger and suppler. The result is a boost to both their physical and mental wellbeing.
RDA research shows that our riders experience significant positive change in areas such as: -
- Communication
- Confidence
- Balance
- Co-ordination
Volunteers also benefit from increased fitness, meeting new friends and increasing their knowledge of horsemanship as well as people’s disabilities/difficulties. You do not need to be experienced with horses as full training will be provided.
This year is the 50th Anniversary of the RDA & if you are interested in riding or volunteering we would love to hear from you. There are many centres across the country and they range from dedicated stables to smaller groups like ours operating from a local equestrian centre. Activities include riding and carriage driving.
Please visit our national website www.rda.org where there is a postcode search to help you locate your nearest group. If you are local to Harpenden, Hertfordshire why not email us at harpendenrda@yahoo.co.uk or visit our Facebook page @harpendenrda.
