Weldmar Hospicecare Trust

We provide specialist palliative care to help our patients across Dorset

Story

On the 23rd September 2010 I will be travelling to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world for charity. I have organised a party of 16 friends to climb with me, all of whom will be raising money for various charities.

The money I raise through sponsorship will be donated to the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust in Dorset. This is a amazing organisation comprising of a day centre in Weymouth, two specialised nurses in Dorset County Hospital, community specialist nurses and the eighteen bedded Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.

It costs £15,000 a day to fund of which only £5,000 is provided by the government, the remaining £10,000 per day is dependent on donations.

As most of you will know, my father Paul was a patient at the Joseph Weld in 2006 where the care and support he and my family received was incredible. It was because of the facilities put in place by the Hospice that he was able to come home at the end of his life, something he was determined to do.

My father climbed Kilimanjaro in 2003 and he always said it was a truly awesome experience. It has been something I have wanted to do ever since and I am delighted that I will be embarking on this challenge in his memory, hopefully raising a substantial amount of money for this very worthy cause.

I would be extremely grateful if you were able to sponsor me, and any amount no matter how small will be hugely appreciated.

I will write to you all in October on our return and tell you how it all went!

With Many Thanks,

Harry
