I'm supporting Amnesty International because I believe that human rights form the foundation of any compassionate society. As a writer, I am especially passionate about freedom of expression and as a feminist, I am determined to fight for equality across all genders, sexualities and ethnicities. I would also like to challenge the many misconceptions surrounding human rights which are perpetuated by the media.

On a personal level, I want to demonstrate that mental health problems need not stand in the way of your dreams. I have wanted to trek to Machu Picchu for most of my life, but used to believe it was impossible because of my struggles with anxiety, depression and borderline personality disorder. However, I also used to think that getting a degree and learning to drive were impossible dreams and I now have a BA, an MA and a driving licence! I am doing this to inspire both myself and others, especially those who have mental health problems.

Meeting my fundraising target also feels impossible at the moment, so I would love you all to prove me wrong! I'm self funding my trip, so every penny raised will go directly to Amnesty International UK. Please join me in this adventure and show the world that every life has value.
