Lorna and I met on the 16M Raleigh Borneo expedition in September 2016, and since then have kept in touch, as have many other Volunteer Managers and volunteers. 

We have vaguely talked about doing a hike for a while, and the opportunity came up recently for us to walk the West Highland Way. However, we only decided about 4 weeks ago that we would do this as we had only just had both our annual leave confirmed. I booked my flights to Edinburgh, and we frantically went about making preparations for the 96-mile walk. This hasn't included a huge amount of training, but we have 7 days, so we hope that will be enough (and if we can complete practice and full treks with Raleigh we hope we can get by)!

We would really like to give back to the charity and cause that brought us and many of our other friends together, and we would also like to support Kit Mallinson's fund that his family set up after our expedition.
Kit sadly passed away less than a week after our expedition ended,  and his family have set up a fund to support Raleigh's Bursary programme.

Their hope is that it will enable young people from low income families who would not otherwise have the opportunity to follow in Kit’s footsteps and have the empowering experience of volunteering on a Raleigh International Expedition, working alongside remote local communities and helping create positive change in our world.
