Story
Hello,
My name is Heidi Burns and I am 9 years old. I live in Boothstown, Manchester, Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My Nana works at a charity called Stick 'n' Step who help children who have cerebral palsy. The children attend Conductive Education sessions which helps them to improve their mobility, confidence and independence. Children with cerebral palsy can have problems walking and balancing as their muscles can be very stiff, and are not always working properly because their brain isn't sending messages to make them work in the way that they work with children who don't have cerebral palsy. Some children also have difficulty talking because of their condition.
I visited Stick 'n' Step centre in Runcorn recently and met 10 year old Heidi Waite. She is in a wheelchair and she told me about the exercises and activities that she does every week at Stick 'n' Step to help her. She loves going and she has made lots of friends there. I found out that the charity are running a sponsored event called Swim400 between June and August this year. It's called that because one in 400 people in the UK have cerebral palsy. The charity wants people either on their own, or as part of a team to swim 400 metres, 400 lengths or for 400 minutes. I have decided to challenge myself to swim 400 metres. The most I have ever done is 250 metres so I am a bit nervous but I am going to do my best. I am training at the moment and will do the actual Swim400 Challenge in July. If you can sponsor me to help me get to my target that would be so cool. Thank you!
