We find solutions to environmental problems to see a fair world for future generations

Story

Hello everyone,

On April 13th 2014 I am running the London Marathon and attempting to break a Guinness world record as the fastest female dressed as a bee to raise money for Friends of the Earth’s campaign ‘The Bee Cause’.  The world record is currently set at a speedy 3 hours 24 mins, my current predicted time based on my half marathon time is 3 hours 45 mins, so I am going to need to run faster miles for double the distance. It’s going to be tough!

The Bee Cause is not a concern that many people know about, declining bee colonies have been seen increasingly across Europe and the US over the past decade, and are now being observed in China and Japan. Numbers have declined even more significantly in the last few decades due to a mite infestation, pesticide use and continual destruction of their habitat.

By donating to this campaign you will be helping to rebuild bee numbers, this is important not only for the conservation of their species but also because bees play an important role as pollinators of some of our important crops. Out of the 100 crop species that provide 90% of the world’s food, more than 70 are pollinated by bees. If we don’t help restore Bee numbers now, we could be facing serious food shortage problems in the future.

It would be great if you would like to sponsor me, any amount will be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance!!

Holly
