Story

I have built a human-sized hamster wheel in which I will attempt to run in for 24 hours from midday Saturday 21st May – midday Sunday 22nd May. The wheel will be based outside the Odeon cinema at the top of Southend High Street and there will be entertainment in the form of local bands, orchestras and choirs as well as competitions for children and adults - so do come a join me!

Local businesses have been incredibly supportive and generous and donated some fantastic prizes, so join one of these competitions to be in with a chance of winning.

How far can one man run?
Guess how many miles I will run in total, to be in with a chance of winning a range of fantastic prizes including dinner at the Pipe of Port and a group celebration package (worth £150) at the newly refurbished Royal Hotel. To enter, just put your estimate as part of your message (if you've already donated, just let us know).

Cycle-a-mile – min £5 donation
On the day, cycle a mile alongside me on a stationary spin bike and be in with a chance of winning a Giant mountain bike, gym membership and racing goodies.

Handsome Hamster – FREE ENTRY!
Anyone under 16 can enter for free with a photo or drawing of their Handsome Hamster (or ravishing rodent / gorgeous guinea pig!) for prizes including bowling, MegaZone and Bounce Village vouchers, family meals out and many others

My story
Two years ago  almost to the day, before the sweat had even dried on my previous challenge (The 10in8 Challenge, where I ran 10 marathons in, yes, you guessed it, 8 days), I was already planning ahead.

My wife (the lovely Sian) made it clear at the time that my next charity challenge would be for my next spouse to handle, but fortunately she seems to have relented, and stands beside me now as I unveil my cunning, bizarre plan to the world...

On the weekend of 21st/22nd May, I will ask, and hopefully answer the question - how far can one man run on a human-sized hamster wheel in 24 hours?

Why? Well, I'm doing this in support of Southend Hospital's Dementia Appeal, a cause close to my heart, and to the hearts of many of you reading this I'm sure.

Believe me, I have no strong desire to run on what is essentially a self-powered treadmill, within a 2m high cage, in Southend High Street, over a busy weekend. But, the more I think about the reason why, the stronger my will to attempt it becomes.

Thank you x
