Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm mad.  Of course I'm mad  - but wanting to walk the length of Great Britain whilst visiting the 3 peaks en route and in one go, alone and mostly unsupported, is something I've wanted to attempt for many years now.  I believe everyone has at least one secret achievement they want to do before it's too late and this is one of mine.  Doing it whilst raising money for Marie Curie makes sense to me on 2 fronts - firstly it raises money for such a worthy cause and secondly I believe it will give me an incentive and boost to go on and complete the walk when the going gets tough (which it will inevitably do).

Walking 1957km continously in less than 100 days is challenging.  It needs planning, it needs preparation, it needs an understanding wife and it needs luck.

Last point first - I was reluctant to post this page until I had completed at least 2 weeks of the walk and I was a bit more confident about achieving my goal and my feet/achilles/tendon/knee/hip/back have not gone on me.  But then I thought - b****r it - I'm only getting one crack at this and there are plenty of people in this world who face much worse than a sore knee or the embarrassment of failure.  So I'm posting now.

Back to the points earlier - I've planned this for 4 years now and having retired in Dec 16, I was planning to start in Mar 17 but fate had other ideas and I had to originally postpone my plans until Summer 18.  Then another cruel twist meant another delay until now.  Undaunted and after preparations including completing the Pennine Way and Cleveland Way, I will start from Land's End on 6 March. (I also happen to be married to a wonderfully understanding wife, so all jobs and chores have been done or are covered for a while).

I wanted to set a reasonable fund raising target - one that recognises that this will take 100 days or so of my life (not including the time planning and training) and the fact that I will be walking a (planned) route that is currently 1957km and includes the 3 highest peaks of Wales, England and Scotland.  So I settled for £1957.

Thank you to all those who have already supported me prior to my first 2 false starts but I hope that you can support me, not just on here but also by keeping in touch by the usual "social media" ways and if you feel like it, why not join me on the walk?  I'll post details of my progress as I go along.  It will not be swish and it may not be that regular but it will happen.
