Story

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
and read my story!

Over the course of the coming summer I will be undertaking a number of challenges in order to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s UK.

The Challenges

1. The Wainwrights challenge

Come mid June 2017 I will embark on the back-to-back summiting of the 214 tallest peaks in the Lake District (The Wainwrights). With no published route, this epic romp will see me cover up to 450miles and a total ascent and descent equivalent to 5 Mount Everest’s. My aim is to walk the entirety within 25 days, averaging up to 20miles per day whilst carrying all my gear on my back. I will remain unsupported by any means of transport from start to finish and will be bedding down 2000ft feet up in the fells.

*Anyone willing to accompany me on a stretch, I am sure my pooches
will more than appreciate the extra company

2. The Rickshaw Rally

After giving myself a meager rest of 14 days I will cross-continent to embark on a 3000km race across India with no more than a seven horsepower Rickshaw (Tuck Tuck) as my noble steed. The two-week race will take me from the southern city of Kochi northward to the city of Jaisalmer and no doubt throw many obstacles in my path.

The burning question…why?

Just over 17 years ago my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s whilst I was 5 years old. Over the course of these past years the disease has gradually taken its toll. As a very active family living in the Lake District, Parkinson’s has limited the joys of life my dad and family once spent together outdoors and has thus changed our lives considerably. A disease as cruel as Parkinson’s has certainly strengthened our family, being led by the sheer determination of a man who is fighting his illness face on, day by day, as he endeavours not to allow adversity to overcome him and continues to do his upmost in life whilst he can.

Parkinsons UK

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. A lack of dopamine causes loss of nerve cells in the brain, which in turn triggers tremors, rigidity, and slowness of movement. People with Parkinson's can also experience insomnia and tiredness, difficulties with speech and swallowing, digestive problems, pain and depression. The condition will progressively worsen over time causing patients to become housebound and dependent upon care.

There's currently no cure for Parkinson's and we don't yet know
why people get the condition. Your money will help fund research into finding better treatments and ways to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson's as well as finding a cure.

Help us to find a cure and improve lives for everyone affected
by Parkinson's.

Kindest Regards,

Jack Roberts
