Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

One of the two charities I will be completing a wing walk on Thursday 15th September 2022, previously scheduled for Sunday 4th September 2022, is Dyspraxia Foundation. This involves standing on a wing of a bi-plane as it flies and summersaults through the sky.

Dyspraxia Foundation was founded in 1987 and today has its headquarters in Hitchin. It seeks every opportunity to increase understanding of dyspraxia, especially among professionals in health and education and to spread awareness of how people living with the condition can be helped.

Dyspraxia is a form of developmental coordination disorder which affects motor coordination in children and adults. It can also affect a number of other areas including speech; learning, thought and memory; organisation and planning; can impact the person’s self-esteem as well as their social, education, work and home life. Nevertheless, many people with dyspraxia are bright, creative, empathetic, determined people who think in innovative ways.

I was diagnosed with dyspraxia at eighteen years old by an educational psychologist. At secondary school I was seriously bullied and instead of learning another language had to take tri-weekly learning support lessons. However, it was the support from family, friends, teachers and the community I have since thrived in my educational, social and work life.

Dyspraxia Foundation have supported me ever since I was diagnosed in March 2013. In June 2017 I was awarded with the ‘Matthew Hunt Award’ for ‘outstanding achievement in raising awareness of dyspraxia’.

I would like to say thank you to you and to everyone at Dyspraxia Foundation by completing this wing walk in their honour.

I will also be completing the wing walk for Crohn's and Colitis UK. Here is a link to their fundraising page if you would like to donate to them:
