Story

Recently, I've taken up cycling wanting to improve my fitness, and it's quite opportune that this opportunity arises.

My wife's Grandfather has recently been diagnosed with the early stages of dementia. A terrible affliction that has affected several people very close and dear to me over the years, including both my Grandfather, Grandmother, and now more recently, my Grandfather In-Law.

Coincidentally, our daughter (Veila), brought a flyer home from school today publicising  the University of Nottingham's Life Cycle 5 event.

In a moment of what I can only describe as a lapse otherwise sound judgement........ I signed up for the 50 mile ride, much to Veila's delight...... If only she knew how hilly it is out Belper way!

It seemed a very opportune moment to do some good: in memory of all those currently afflicted by, or caring for family members with dementia, and to help raise valuable funds to combat this terribly destructive disease.

In it's fifth year, Life Cycle 5, organised by the vice chancellor of the University of Nottingham, will be raising money for the ground breaking research undertaken by the University of Nottingham's Nobel Prize winning MRI scanner into all forms of Dementia.

The ride will take place on the 23rd August, starting at Highfields, most likely fairly early.  From there, the route will take me via , Ilkestone, Heanor, Belper, Shottle, Duffield, Little Eaton, Breadsall, & Stanely.

The 2.5 Mile climb out Belper to Shottle is somewhat daunting!

More information on Life Cycle 5 can be found here: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/supportus/currentfundingpriorities/theuniversityofnottinghamslifecycle/getinvolved/getinvolved.aspx

If you can, please donate generously, and if not, please give your support throughout the ride and at the finish line, I'll need all the encouragement I can get!
