We support the RBH special care baby unit to help babies and their families

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for a small, local charity - Babies In Buscot Support (BIBS), who we've seen first hand deliver incredible support to the special care baby unit at the Buscot Ward at Reading's Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Our daughter, Millie, contracted Group B Strep and sepsis when she was born and spent the first week of her life in the intensive care unit at Buscot Ward.  A number of our close friends, whose babies have been born prematurely or experienced serious health conditions, and whether they were born at the Royal Berks or elsewhere the work that midwives, doctors, nurses and support staff do is fantastic.  The care given to both babies and parents makes such a difference.  With NHS Funding being so tight, charities play a really important role in helping raise funds for additional medical equipment, improving facilities, as well providing invaluable information, and a community and network for emotional support.

If you want to know more about the work that the team at BIBS do, the charity focuses on 4 main areas of activity:

Support - Providing families with independent emotional support while their baby is in Buscot and beyond

Awareness - Helping inform parents about what to expect from a stay in Buscot by providing written information and raising awareness of issues related to prematurity or sickness at birth

Facilities - Refurbishing facilities and accommodation on the ward to provide a more comfortable and homely environment.

Equipment - Helping to fund state of the art equipment for the ward in incubators, cardiac monitors, ventilators and phototherapy units.

Thank you for all your support and any donations would mean a great deal to keep these aging legs of mine moving!
