Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2009, when I was 40. At the time my two daughters were just 9 and 11, see the photos above, the first one was taken just before my mastectomy - I'd dyed my blonde hair brown even though I knew that I'd soon lose my hair to chemo! The later photo was taken in July this year when my eldest graduated from university.
I had a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction (DIEP flap) and lymph node removal, followed by 8 cycles of chemotherapy, I had an allergic reaction to one type so I had to have a chemo that usually treats liver cancer. I then had daily radiotherapy for 5 weeks and Tamoxifen until I had my ovaries removed and a change of drugs.
The treatment had various lasting side effects, which included medical menopause, my bones thinning, aching joints and short-term memory loss, for which more tablets had to be taken. Three years ago, my bone density had improved and the other side effects had lessened so I stopped taking all mediation.
I needed Breast Cancer Care back in 2010 when every twinge had me worrying that the cancer was back and the memory loss left me feeling quite inadequate. They helped me then and to celebrate my ten year cancerversary I hope to raise some money for them, please help me by donating today - thank you.
