Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To turn the clock back to June 2015 I weighed 118.2kg and was pretty unhealthy, high blood sugar and blood pressure all over the place. I decided enough was enough. I was turning 50 in Feb 2016 and wanted to lose weight and climb Snowdon for my 50th. I had last climbed it in 2010 and due to the bulk I was carrying around it took me almost 9 hours to complete, and about a week to recover.

I started a strict diet on 22/06/15, The Newcastle diet - Google it - it worked for me, also have a look at the Michael Mosley book and now of course the amazing Fixing Dad team. Anyway long story short, I dropped 30kg and reversed type 2 diabetes. 8 weeks of 800 Cals a day = 8 years of struggling to keep blood glucose in check gone + 8 years of medication gone. GP - gobsmacked. The surgery asked for a copy of the journal I kept. The 1st 2 weeks were tough but in all truth hunger was never an issue. For me it was habit not hunger that needed to be overcome.

Fast forward to Feb 2016 and I hit the summit of Snowdon on 12th on my own in a complete whiteout and loved it. I returned on the 18th and 27th with different members of my family and another 6 times via various routes so I thought why not do a challenge to complete it 50 times in the year I am 50.

The charity choice was hard as I was torn between DiabetesUK and. having reversed type 2, it would have been the obvious choice, however I have gone for Llanberis Mountain Resucue Team as it fits best with what I am trying to achieve. The life saving work they do is amazing, and although I hope I never need them I know they will be there if I do. A full set of kit for each volunteer rescuer costs £250 so I am looking to try and raise enough to kit out half a dozen volunteers.

Thanks for reading my story. I will be updating my progress after each outing. Please give what you can and share this with your friends, family and contacts. Maybe we will bump into each other on the mountain one day. Remember check the weather, know your route, take the right gear and enough food. There is lots of information on the mountain rescue website. Most importantly don't be afraid to turn back,  the mountain will be there next time.

Thanks - Jeff
