Story

Through being an official sponsor I have been very privileged to be a part of the Wobbleberry Challenge (the aim is to complete a BE80 one day event - dressage, sj & xc at 80cm) and meet and hear of so many inspirational people who are taking on a challenge to support The Hannah Francis Willberry Wonder Pony cancer charity. Which got me thinking...

I've never done a charity challenge and I'm just not the sort of person to run a marathon! I've not really jumped in a couple of years because I caught the dressage bug and decided to concentrate on doing that. Even when I was jumping in competition years ago it was at 75cm and not massively stylish!! Ive never gone XC and it's always been at the back of my mind. This seemed the perfect opportunity to sign up myself and lead by example.

I was affected by cancer as my ex boyfriend very nearly died of non Hodgkin's lymphoma when I was only 18. I was actually allowed to spend the night with him in hospital at one point because they thought it might be his last, I think doing that meant he had the support he needed for it not to be. It was a very hard thing to go through so young and I was the healthy one. Now well over a decade later we aren't together but I hear he's still in remission and only because they put him on a new drugs trial because he was so young (24) at the time he was diagnosed. So I want to raise money to help more of these trials so more people can beat cancer and less people like Hannah are so sadly lost so young.

This is going to be one heck of a ride and I'm a mixture of excited and nervous right now!! The bit that's really spurred me on is to hear the stories of the people who have joined and the camaraderie of the team.

I'll keep you updated with my journey on here so that you can follow what I do to get there and how I use all of my own tools and techniques along the way. Trust me I'll be needing the whole toolbox to get me doing a BE80 by this time next year!

About the charity

The Charity was established by talented horse rider, Hannah Francis, following her diagnosis with the aggressive form of bone cancer, osteosarcoma. People all over the world followed Hannah's story which she told through her mascot, Willberry. Tragically Hannah passed away at just 18 years old.
