Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page & please take some time to read my story.

One year ago today I woke from an operation to be told the devastating news I was paralysed from the neck down.  I had suffered from complications to a routine operation, and while I got information relating to what had happend unfortunately my consultant couldn't give me a great deal of prognosis for the future. It was basically a wait and see situation!  What we did know is that the nerves, signals from my brain and sensation had been affected due to a spinal cord problem but it wasn't necessarily for ever.

Skip forward two weeks of intensive care, high dependancy, ward hospital care, tests, scans, proded & pocked and I was moved to the rehabilitation centre within St Helens hospital called Seddon Suite.

Now Seddon Suite or as I like to call it The Suite Of Dreams, is a dedicated rehabilitation centre.  It has a full staff of Doctors, Health Care Assistants, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Ocupational Therapists, Vocal Therapists, Councillors and a number of catering & housekeeping staff who work tremendously to care for, help and assist people who've suffered brain/spine injuries/illnesses.

During the five months I stayed in The Suite of Dreams I made amazing progress (even if I do say so myself!) Daily physio & OT, wonderful HCA & nurse care all helped towards getting me back to my old self.  It was a hard slog but I went from nothing from the neck down to feeling & sensation down the right side, strength to sit, then stand, then to taking a step....all very Rocky Balboa stuff as I'm sure you can imagine!!

One year on I have decided to do a little fundraiser to celebrate how far I've come & to give some well deserved money to the fabulous Suite of Dreams. The money raised could be used to purchase much needed equipment, help towards getting free WiFi for the facility and much much more.  Every penny will help to ensure this facility remains available for people, like me, who need it.  I still have a long way to go but I know the ground work the wonderful staff did, has set me on the right path.

So what am I going to do for your donation I hear you cry?! I can't really do much physical activity, watching me walk 100 metres with my zimmer isn't that exciting. With this in mind I thought I'd just do something FUN. So I will paint my face every day, with a new design for FIVE WEEKS. I will carry on my life as normal apart from instead of make up each day I'll put face paint on. Feel free to suggest or request any ideas, obviously with a suitable donation.

I may decide to extend this or even do more activities as the weeks go on to try and raise as much as possible, I'll see how we go.  I will update regularly so you can see the full extent of my crazy.

Thank you for reading & please share this far & wide to help me raise as much as I can.

Update: Due to people's amazing generosity £500 was raised within the first 11 hours!  So I have increased the target to £1000.  Please keep sharing & donating. Thank you ❤

Updated Update: Can't believe how well this has been going so for the second time I have increased the target to £1500. £500 in 11 hours, then £1000 after 7 Days of painting my face - truly brilliant! Every little helps so please donate whatever you can. Keep sharing ❤
