Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Please take the time to read Greame's story and see why Greame McCall, Liam Pilkington, John Bullen, Gregg Jaymes & Jonathon Keddie are flying to Africa to climb the worlds tallest free standing mountain...

It is becoming too frequent that you hear about so many people being affected by Cancer in some form or other however, it wasn’t until my own sister Linzi was recently diagnosed with breast cancer that it hit home how tough the battle and journey really is not only for Linzi, but for her Husband Darren and her two Children Harley (age 5) and Jorgie (age 3) and ‘All’ of her family and friends.

Only by being thrown into this life changing situation you come to realise how tirelessly hard NHS staff, individual groups and charities work to make this difficult time as comfortable as possible for the patients and families of those affected by this disease. The various heart-warming touches provided by the NHS staff at my sister’s hospital has inspired me to want to give something back and to help other families affected in the same way. After researching various charity groups and organisations it was apparent that all are worthy causes but one particular charity close to home stood out to me above the rest as my primary goal. The Whiston and St Helens Hospital Charity have launched an appeal to raise money for the ‘Lilac Centre’ who are in need of various and much needed equipment, The ‘Lilac Centre’ is dedicated to providing services such as: Therapies including counselling, reiki, aromatherapy and reflexology. Headscarves and Headwear to give patients that extra boost of confidence when they most need it. Comfortable Chairs for patients having chemotherapy treatment. Dedicated Specialist Hair Salon for chemotherapy patients who may need help coping with hair loss as part of their treatment. Transport Services, Physical Activities, and Support Groups are also on the endless list of complementary services that this centre provides to make life for patients and families of those affected by Breast Cancer less stressful and more bearable, the very same place that are currently helping my sister though this difficult time.

Upon sharing my ambitions of fund raising with my work colleagues at Bolton Steel Structures they too was inspired by my sisters story and have generously pledged help raise funds and awareness. Bolton Steel Structures have generously begun the fundraising by offering the chance of a lifetime for myself and some fellow colleagues to fly to Africa to Trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This act of kindness in its self deserves worthy recognition and I can’t thank them enough for providing this fantastic opportunity to raise money for such an important cause.

In Addition to the Trek, Myself, Colleagues, Family and friends will be raising funds and awareness through various fund-raising events between now and the Trek to the Summit on the 10th October 2019. We hope to soon have a website available to update on any fundraising activities with which you are all welcome to participate in or simply use the website to donate to help such a worthy cause

It’s going to be a tough battle to get to the top but nowhere near as tough as the battle thousands of women go through on their own battle through breast cancer.

Please Donate generously to help mothers, grandmothers, daughters, aunties and sisters across the country get through this difficult time.

We pledge to raise a minimum of £15,000 for the Lilac Centre and the important services they provide
