Story

For some completely insane reason, Paul, Julian, Brenda and Myself (John) have decided to jump out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft from 15000 feet! The three guys are looking to raise funds for the fantastic life saving oncology unit at addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge after the amazing care and treatment they gave to our wives,Teresa and Rachel. Brenda is raising funds for Prostrate cancer, a charity very close to her heart.

Last year, as many of you know, My beautiful wife Teresa, was treated for metastatic throat cancer and endured painful but necessary radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment at addenbrookes. A very difficult and stressful time for the whole Family. She couldnt eat anything for six weeks and ended up being peg fed directly into her stomach. The radiotherapy left her with severe burns to her neck and sick from the drugs. It will be many months before she will feel strong again, but the regular checks at addenbrookes are great source of comfort, as are the wonderful staff. She wouldnt be here now without the oncology department and its dedicated staff.......thankyou.

Rachel would like you to read her thoughts.........4 years ago, at the age of 42 I was diagnosed with Endometrial cancer, and was sent to Addenbrookes hospital for treatment. Unfortunately on further investigation, it was discovered that I had 2 different types of high grade aggressive cancer, and a tumour growing from my cervix.

A complex and difficult operation, lasting 7 hours, was needed to remove the tumour, followed by 18 weeks of chemotherapy. Whilst in treatment, genetic testing confirmed that I had a gene mutation Lynch syndrome meaning my chances of getting other cancers are very high.
Luckily because of the care and dedication of the doctors and nurses at Addenbrookes, I am cancer free, and am scanned frequently for the signs of any other cancers, So they be caught early. Without this amazing hospital my outcome would have been different, I owe them my life.

Thankfully these two beautiful ladies are currently making recoveries and are in better health. We all can not thank addenbrookes enough.

During Teresa's treatment we met a number of other wonderful people. All having the same type of Cancer as her. Personally i will do this for Teresa and Rachel but will be thinking of Celia, Peter, Jed, Mandy, Sarah and Mick. Special thanks also to Clive, Steve and Lorraine for your guidance, direction and strengh.

As of yesterday 19/07/19.....thinking of Michelle Wattling. R.I.P. you were wonderful and will be missed x

Addenbrooke’s Hospital sees over 4,000 new patients a year who rely on its lifesaving cancer care. This amounts to 11 people at Addenbrooke’s facing a new cancer diagnosis every day. Such high demand for cancer services makes the charity’s work even more urgent. Funds raised through the appeal will ensure that people with cancer at Addenbrooke’s are treated in a comfortable and dignified environment, with the latest equipment and technology.

Six weeks in time!

We will never again take for granted.....
Feeling the sun on your face....
Or a direction of a journey travelled.....
Being changed at such a pace....

When the consultant says it's Cancer.....
And your heart drops to the floor.....
And a life completely turned upside down.....
And a fight to live a lot more.....

So the next path was addenbrookes....
A place of hope and amazing care....
And a six week course of treatment.....
That's seems so desperately unfair....

That mountain seemed so daunting .....
When first leaving base camp....
The nerves inside, made the heart race.....
And life's card gets another stamp.....

Nothing could of prepared us.....
For what was next to come...
Burning treatment that takes your voice....
But still they all fight as one

Doctors will tell you many things.....
Like, how you will feel and what to say.....
But the one thing that has helped the most .....
Is the people we met along the way.....

They have nearly crossed that mountain now.....
With battle scars and stories to tell......
And I hope they get what they deserve .....
And be happy and always well.....

Life is so very precious....
We will live it every day...
It's the memories made on that journey....
That can never be taken away
