Story
Back in 1981 a group of canoe amateurs embarked on an epic journey exploring the rivers of Norwich by canoe...and sampling a few pubs on the way too! Now, some thirty years later, we plan to do it again, only this time it's serious! As this time, it's for charity and in loving memory of those who can't be with us second trip round.
The challenge has been organised and inspired by my good friend, John, who, having been diagnosed with the asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma, has made it his mission to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos (see his EDP article: http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/health/norwich-carpenter-s-warning-to-young-tradespeople-over-asbestos-dangers-1-5061958) and to raise money for the Mesothelioma UK Charitable Trust.
Thanks to the kind generosity of Pub and Paddle canoe rental, also The Red Lion, Bishopbridge for waiving the launch fee, we will be embarking on a 7 hour journey along Norwich's rivers on Wednesday 13 September 2017, stopping in a few pubs along the way, in particular the Ferry House, Surlingham who have offered discount on food and drink to the weary travelers.
Our team of merry travelers is made up of John Jackson (our captain), Joe Jackson, Rachel Jackson, Paul Jackson, Carol & Richard Fisher, Cathy and Lauren Smith, Denise Knights & Neil Mattioli, Tom Cudden, Kate Cudden, Rob Evans, Daniel & Georgie (AND BUMP), Barry & Miriam Spooner and last but not least Dani & Chris to name a few, and in loving memory of David Smith - while his company will be missed, the journey will be a darn sight quicker without his constant toilet breaks!
