We help young people in their 20s and 30s to live life alongside cancer

Story

Thanks for visiting!  I know, I know “here she goes again”

A bit about my story for those who may not know...

My name is Jo  and I was diagnosed with Stage 4 malignant melanoma on the 29th September 2010 at the age of 23. Initially I had a 1.5mm mole removed from my neck when I was 18 years old and I have been living with cancer ever since. I am now 31 years old. I am not dead yet (hooray!)

When I was first diagnosed with cancer everything felt very out of my control and almost overnight I felt I had all my independence taken away from me. Over the years cancer has undoubtedly knocked my confidence. I decided to share my story and raise awareness. I've never been a sun seeker but it goes to show melanoma does not discriminate, if it makes a difference to just one person it will be worth it.

About 18 months ago I found the small London based charity Trekstock, and have recived so much support from them over the past few months. I decide to do the British 10k to raise money as training for the Northampton half marathon in September for another great local charity The Lewis Foundation. I also need a goal to aim for to try and keep fit and healthy and continue to fight cancer. What better way than raising money for a great charity in the process? I don’t feel like I can just do nothing.

I recently took part in the Lake District 5 Peak Challenge (2018) and Conquer The Tower (2017) to raise funds for Trekstock. If you’ve any spare change I’d really appreciate it! I know I keep asking, but it really will make a difference to people like me. One less drink in the pub could give you that warm fuzzy feeling of helping someone else in need.

The story of my cancer journey so far can be found on my blog melanomajo.com and hope to continue sharing my story with others.
