Story

"Wood" you believe it!

Imagine three friends sat in a pub one night, discussing a web link showing the development of a bicycle that set the World Speed Record for All Wooden Bikes. Eventually one emailed from his smartphone for the rules and back they came almost by return.  "Wouldn't it be a good idea……." said someone, and this project was born!

The three friends, Nick, Jon and Andy had been at College together a year or two ago [and the rest. Ed] and this was initially just another fun project, using all the tools acquired over the intervening years. With Jon's wife Ruth having died from Motor Neurone Disease and him involved with the Manchester Branch this was seen as an opportunity to support the charity. The bike will have its first viewing when exhibited at Castlefield during the Manchester Skyride on 15th July 2012. It will then go into "warm storage" for any required "adjustments" following it’s outing being carried out. The ultimate aim is to try for a formal record attempt in October 2012.

We will put updates on the page as it progresses and would ask you to support the Ruth Leigh Tribute Fund in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a disease for which there is currently no cure and life expectancy is 3 to 5 years from the onset of the disease. Only 10% of people live longer than 5 years and Ruth wasn’t one of them.

We have set up this page to support this endeavour so we can help the MND Association support those with MND and help find a cure for this evil disease.
