Kidnapping is a very low probability but very high impact event. Hostage UK is an independent charity that supports hostages and their families, during and after a kidnap. It was founded by Terry Waite and  a group of former hostages and their family members who wanted to ensure that anyone going through a kidnap had access to the specialist care and support they need, at the time and - most importantly - as long as necessary afterwards as they/their families  come to terms with their ordeals. Delivered independently of any outside interests, its team includes psychologists, psychiatrists, lawyers, financial advisors and communications experts who give their time freely. Despite its name, Hostage UK is increasingly trying to help establish and support organisations with similar objectives around the world. From personal experience, they do a fantastic job, using highly qualified people giving highly practical advice with great empathy.
