Over the last few years, I have taken on many physical challenges for a bit of fun, but this year, I have decided to take it a step further and at the same time, raise some money for a very worthy cause.

Over the next few months I will be taking on three separate challenges, culminating in the Jurassic Coast Challenge, which is a 100km trek/run along the Dorset Coast, starting at Poole and ending in Bridport.

The first challenge is the Yeovil Half Marathon at the end of March, which requires a certain amount of training input in the lead up to the event and then the training regime has to alter as early May sees me attempt a Triathlon for the first time at Stourhead. This is a sprint Triathlon, which involves a 900m sprint, 18 mile bike rode and then 4.5 mile run.

Finally, on the 8th June at some unearthly hour, I start a 100km trek along the coast path to Bridport. This is a non-stop trek which will continue through the night until completion. I have estimated that this will take between 23 to 25 hours, but I am hoping i can bring this down to 20 hours.

I have decided to raise money for Hope For Kids International because of my own personal experience of seeing first had the work that they do with children in some of the poorest countries in the world.

In 2002, I had the privilege of staying at an orphanage in Beirut, to see first hand the amazing work that is done by Hope for Kids International. The impact that they are having on young childrens lives, taking them from situations of desperation, providing them with a home and schooling. Then to see these children emerge into the adult world, with the opportunities they could never have dreamed of if Hope For Kids had not intervened.      

Since then, I have been an avid supporter of the work of Hope For Kids, by raising money through personal challenges and through my business.

Hope For Kids is a small charity with its headquarters in Yeovil, but is making a fantastic difference to childrens lives around the globe.

Hope For Kids have projects ongoing in various countries in Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East and rely solely on charitable donations and volunteers to keep these projects going.

This is an idea of what your donations can do for the childrens homes:

£12 – Will buy a mosquito net and protect a child against malaria.

£15 – Will provide a family with chickens. One chicken can produce 530 eggs during its laying lifetime – providing lots of protein and extra income for healthy families.

£15 – Will provide children with sheets and blankets to help towards a comfortable night’s sleep.

£20 – Will buy children lifesaving vaccinations to help fight against measles, tetanus, polio and TB.

£25 – Will buy 1 months’ supply of medical consumables. Keeping the clinics stocked up with supplies and equipment allows them to continue providing patients with medical care.

£40 – Will provide clean water for a whole family. Clean water makes the difference between life and death in most of the countries where our children's homes are located.
