Story

Bladder cancer is not a rare cancer - it is the 4th most common in men, the 7th most common in the UK overall.

Over 10,300 people are diagnosed each year, around half of those will die. Despite this, there is very limited public awareness of the disease and it is a low priority on the public health agenda.

Treatments have changed very little over the past 30 years and research is seriously underfunded. Bladder cancer has been called a 'Cinderella' cancer. ABC UK is dedicated to changing this and to giving bladder cancer patients a voice.

My Grandad was an amazing man, I spent a lot of my childhood with him,  having lots of crazy fun adventures along the way. He was more like a dad to me and he treated me like I was his daughter, we were so so close.

When grandads health started to deteriorate (late 2016 through to 2017) we soon found out he had muscle invasive Bladder Cancer. Unfortunately, he was too weak to receive any treatment. The day he passed was the worst day of my life.  I was numb with grief. A year on and it doesn’t get any easier. I miss him so much💚

When I researched into Bladder Cancer, I was shocked to read that it receives just 0.6 % of cancer research donations. How can that be fair? It’s the 4th most common Cancer in men!

I decided I wanted to do something challenging to raise some money and awareness for this disease.

I came across a cycling event. I’m more into walking, so I saw this as a huge challenge. My husband is a keen cyclist so I knew he’d help me train, as it happens, he’s taking part in the event with me! 💚

So, in September 2019, Matt, my brother Steven and I will be taking part in the London to Brighton Bike ride, 55miles!! Eeeeekk!!

I thank you all for your continued support xxx
