It may be Magic Weekend on 25-26 May, but for former England and Leeds Rhinos rugby league captain Kevin Sinfield it’s set to be a manic weekend, as he takes on the Liverpool Marathon ahead of a crunch Super League clash in the city.

On Sunday 26 May, Sinfield will complete the 26.2-mile Rock and Roll Liverpool Marathon in the morning, before taking his place at Anfield when the Rhinos face off against London Broncos later the afternoon.

That match kicks off at 3.30pm, with Sinfield, now Director of Rugby at the Headingley club, aiming to be finished, showered and ready for business before then.

Sinfield has twice run the Virgin Money London Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK, helping raise more than £8,000 together with close friend Chris Stephenson.

The marathon is more than a run for Kevin who has been moved to support the cause after Sky Sports rugby league commentator and reporter Bill Arthur, told of his fight with the deadly disease. Arthur, who is a regular on the satellite channel’s groundbreaking coverage of Super League, and hugely respected amid the rugby league family, is one of more than 400,000 men in the UK suffering from the disease after being diagnosed eight years ago.

Eddie Hemmings, former long-time anchor and commentator on the station has also been affected and both men have worked closely with Prostate Cancer UK, helping raise awareness among the rugby league family.

Sinfield, who has also twice joined Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling in his epic March for Men events, also proudly wore the charity’s ‘Man of Men’ pin badge when named runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2015.
