Story
I read about Cool Earth earlier this year because of their awesome approach to saving the rainforest, instead of planting trees or buying plots of land they help local people earn money other ways so they don't have to resort to logging to make money. Plus they help communities become legal owners of the forest they're surrounded by so that other people can't come in and start deforestation.
The last bit of cleverness in their approach is they protect outer areas of rainforest that help create a shield so no one can chop there way into the centre helping to save even more trees.
£60 will save an acre of rainforest which is the equivalent to 240 trees, 260 tonnes of CO2 and 76,000 tonnes of water a year.
In the UK the average carbon footprint is somewhere between 10-15 tonnes of CO2 so you can offset your carbon footprint for the year for about £3.50, not bad going.
So for my birthday this year, I would love for you to make a donation.
Thank you everybody.
