Story
Throughout my time at University I have become increasingly aware of the prevalence of mental health issues, both within and outwith the student population. One in four people will experience a mental health issue each year, with students at high risk. Little things in life can escalate when not addressed properly. For those at University, mental health support services are limited, in high demand and difficult to access, and for those not, these aren't even an option.
Penumbra is an Edinburgh based Scottish charity that provide personal support to individuals who need it. They aim to improve the well-being of those struggling with their mental health, especially individuals who are at risk of suicide, in recovery, homeless, young, or need employment support. Importantly, they man the Edinburgh Crisis Centre.
Although it is improving, the social stigma and taboo around mental health still exists. So, with this cycle, I'm hoping to increase the awareness of mental health issues at every little stop along the 987ish miles (help) of Great Britain . I'm excited to do this with my dad, who's fundraising for another amazing cause in St Columbas Hospice, and any donations would be greatly appreciated!
