Story
As many of you are aware we took the plunge in 2014 to move to Torquay to be nearer the sea and our boat Lacerta. We spent a lot of last year sailing including going all the way round Britain. We were looking for a challenge for this year and decided to enter the Yachting Monthly Triangle Race which is held every two years and starts and finishes in Torquay. It is a two handed race covering approximately 620 miles with 3 legs. The first is Torquay to Kinsale, then Kinsale to Treguier, then Treguier back to Torquay. This will be very different to our round Britain cruise as we will be racing, covering much longer distances at a time, we are not able to use our engine and of course we will be pushing Lacerta hard so that we finish as quickly as possible. All in all quite a challenge for two sixty plus year olds (our combined age is now 126!).
All of this started well over 50 years ago when we both had the opportunity to learn to sail at the Staffordshire Schools Sailing Centre at Chasewater. As I (Debbie) always say the best £2.50 my Mum & Dad ever spent on me. There is no doubt that our lives and characters were hugely influenced by this. So we feel we would like to give something back to help other children get a better start in life. For the rest of this year we have set ourselves the challenge to raise £1,000 for the Dot Com Children's Foundation so that other children get the opportunity to be empowering, grow up with confidence and know that bullying and violence should not be tolerated. Through their amazing programme in schools children learn to respect each other and know that if they are experiencing problems there are adults they can turn to for help. We hope that you will be happy to support this charity in some small way.
