Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I came across Nacoa a short while ago - a relatively unique charity and one I hold in very high regard having struggled with these particular issues as a youngster. Nacoa do great work for many children and young adults going through an often 'hidden' problem, and I would love to raise some money to enable them to continue to do the same.
Having an alcohol dependent parent is a very isolating and terrifying experience for any young person. Even having someone at the other end of the phone to talk to can make a world of difference - I know it would have made things a lot easier for me;
"The National Association for Children of Alcoholics (Nacoa) is a registered charity (No. 1009143), founded in 1990 to address the needs of children growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism or a similar addictive problem. This includes children of all ages, many of whose problems only become apparent in adulthood.
Nacoa has four broad aims:
1. To offer information, advice and support to children of alcohol-dependent parents
2. To reach professionals who work with these children
3. To raise their profile in the public consciousness
4. To promote research into:
- the particular problems faced by those who grow up with parental alcoholism
- the prevention of alcoholism developing in this vulnerable group of children."
So, I thought I'd put my running to good use and take part in a few Half Marathons in order to raise funds - Belfast (18th Sept), Bristol (25th Sept) and Manchester (16th Oct).
All donations are greatly appreciated, no matter how big or small!
Let's help out some kids going through a tough time.
Thanking everyone in advance :)
